List of SDS Managers and Staff

This page provides a list of all SDS managers and back-office staff, and also includes those responsible higher up in the chain of command - with links to their individual profiles. 

The overview is based on the timelines of SDS personnel and those higher up, provided by the Undercover Policing Inquiry - see Timelines and organisational charts.

Legend - Name

[restricted]: Been given anonymity over real name by the Inquiry.
['cover name']: For UCOs who later had a manager role, but real name is restricted.

Legend - Role

UCO: Undercover officer
SDS Manager: Head of the Specal Demonstration Squad (Detective Chief Inspector) or Deputy Head (Detective Inspector)
SDS Staff: Administrative staff with responsibility for issues such as vehicles, preparation of reports, etc.; usually ranks Detective Sergeant, Detective Constable or were civilian staff.
SB Manager: Special Branch senior officers of rank Superintendent and above.
SLT: Senior Leading Team: Assistant - or Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner.

Legend - Evidence

WS: Witness Statement or no, or just to Operation Herne.
OE: Oral Evidence at the hearings or no.
Ill Health: Reason for not giving evidence.
Deceased: Reason for not giving evidence.
Outside: Living outside England and Wales, outside the jurisdiction of the Inquiry.
