Kenneth Newman
Overview

As commissioner of the Metropolitan Police from 1982 to 1987, HN1167 Kenneth Leslie Newman was at the top of the hierarchy responsible for the Special Demonstration Squad. 

He was chief constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) from 1976 to 1980. Before transferring to the RUC, Newman had been Commander in Charge of Community and Race Relations Branch (A7) at New Scotland Yard. He held a degree in law.

Newman died on 4 February 2017, at the age of 90, and did not give a witness statement to the Undercover Policing Inquiry.
