Overview
HN1839/TN0047 John David Palmer-Hall joined the Metropolitan Police in 1950 and Special Branch in 1952. He was superintendent of S Squad where he had oversight of the SDS for a short time - from mid May 1980 until he retired mid November 1980.
Palmer-Hall is referred to as both HN1839 and TN0047 in Inquiry documents, the latter a temporary nominal given to him before the HN one. He is deceased and did not give a witness statement to the Undercover Policing Inquiry.
In 1990, Palmer-Hall made news headlines, having briefly gone missing while out for a jog – a matter MP George Galloway raised in the House of Commons.
