Overview

HN58 was an SDS undercover officer, likely in the 1980s - information on this is restricted. Later, as Detective Chief Inspector, he headed the unit from July 1997 to May 2001. 

He was named in the Ellison Report concerning the SDS' spying upon Stephen Lawrence's family. 

While HN58 refused to cooperate with the Ellison investigators, he did submit a witness statement to the Undercover Policing Inquiry and gave evidence at hearings in summer 2026, although it was only broadcast to the public as audio.
