Detective Sergeant HN52 Bernard Patrick Greaney was a member of the SDS back-office staff from May 1997 to April 2003.
During that period, he was involved in supporting the MPS team that prepared the response to the McPherson Inquiry and its conclusion that the force was institutionally racist. According to the Ellison Review , he received a memo from Bob Lambert about the confidential meeting between senior officer Richard Walton of that team and undercover officer HN81.
Greaney submitted a witness statement to the Undercover Policing Inquiry and has been asked to give oral evidence at the hearings.
His name also appears in the June 2021 Daniel Morgan Independent Panel report, in the context of a memo he received in 2009, when he was in the Metropolitan Police's corruption unit, the Directorate of Professional Standards.
