Agitprop Agitprop Originally the name of a department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union responsible for political propaganda, in the context of the Inquiry it refers to one or more groups. There were two separate activist groups around in the late 1960s and early 1970s respectively. The 1968 group was a Maoist-orientated 'radical information agency' based at 160 North Gower Street, central London and listed as a primary surveillance target in the 1970 SDS Annual Report. From 1971, the SDS reported on an Agitprop at 248 Bethnal Green Road, East London, connected to the Angry Brigade. This iteration was anarchist and also the base of the Gay Liberation Front. The 1971 Special Branch Annual Report suggests a continuity between the Gower St and Bethnal Green Road organisations, but this is likely to be an error. There was also a totally seperate Socialist Workers Party offshoot (c.1978/79) with the same name. Full page: Agitprop

Peace Action London Peace Action London Peace Action was a group of anti-militarist campaigners in the 1980s that took part in the 1984 Stop the City demonstrations in the City of London. One former member, Albert Beale, is a core participant in the Inquiry. The only documents related to them are authored by MI5.  (an amalgam of Action Committee Against NATO and Chemical and Biological Warfare Action Group (CABWAG))

Shrewsbury Two Defence Committee The Shrewsbury 24 The Shrewsbury 24 were trade unionists unfairly convicted for taking part in and picketing during the 1972 National Builders Strike. Two of the strikers, Des Warren and Ricky Tomlinson, were jailed. When a support group was set up for the pair, the SDS reported on it. Although listed as a target it in the 1980 SDS Annual Report there are intelligence reports available. It was Maoist in politcal oreintation. In Britain, it was in response to the Vietnamese invasion and occupation that a small campaigning organisation was formed by non-aligned solidarity activists, Kampuchean residents in Britain and Maoists, playing an early role in the organisation.
