Overview

Socialist Unity was a short-lived electoral coalition in the UK that the International Marxist Group (IMG) formed in the late 1970s in response to the Socialist Workers Party (SWP) contesting elections. Other members of the coalition included Big Flame and the Workers League. Tariq Ali was one of Socialist Unitys unsuccessful electoral candidates.

The group was named a main surveillance target in the SDS 1977 and 1978 annual reports but otherwise appears in very little reporting. However, Socialist Unity does appear in non-SDS police documents regarding counter-protests against the National Front during this period.
