Overview

Rising Free was an anarchist bookshop in Islington based at 197 Kings Cross Road and then at 182 Upper Street in Islington, north London circa 1972 until around 1981. In 1981 there was a proposal to move the bookshop to Hackney but it is not clear whether this happened.

Groups that met at the bookshop included the London Workers Group, which was spied on by the SDS. However, although the bookshop appears as a named as target in SDS annual reports between 1978 and 1981, little reporting is dedicated to it.
