Overview

British Withdrawal from Northern Ireland Campaign (BWNIC) was a pacifist campaign that included appealing to British troops to desert the army. There are just three documents relating to the campaign in Inquiry disclosure.

Campaigners handed out a leaflet entitled 'Some Information for Discontented Soldiers'. This led to 14 members being prosecuted in 1976 under Section 1 of the Incitement to Disaffection Act 1934 and Section 192 of the Army Act 1955. There was a trial at the Old Bailey in London on the conspiracy charge where all 14 defendants were acquitted. This included Inquiry core particpant Albert Beale.
