Closed officers

This refers to officers whose real and cover names have been fully restricted by the Inquiry. The evidence is held ‘closed’, hence the reference. Little is known of them and the Inquiry has only released their nominals and a gist collating the statements they provided.

In Tranche 1 the Inquiry received statements from HN21 HN21 HN21 was an SDS officer who was deployed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. While his real and cover name are restricted by The Inquiry he did appear as 'Geoff' in the BBC documentary True Spies. In that documentary, he said that he infiltrated the Socialist Workers Party and the Anti-Nazi League. He alos admitted having sex with a woman under his cover name on more than one occasion. , HN41 HN41 HN41 was a SDS undercover officer deployed against two groups in the 1970s and 1980s. There is a short, gisted and redacted transcript of their Inquiry hearing but little is revealed about the officer beyond their views on various issues. , HN109 HN109 HN109 was an SDS undercover officer in the 1970s and returned to the Special Demonstration Squad as a Detective Inspector and manager of the unit in the 1980s. He gave evidence to the Inquiry in a closed hearing. As a manager, was involved in attempting to track down HN95 Stefan Scutt (cover name 'Stefan Wesolowski') after he had disappeared whilst still deployed following a mental breakdown in 1988. , HN241 HN241 HN241 was a undercover officer in the SDS at some point between 1983 and 1992. No other information is available. , HN302 HN302 HN302 was an SDS undercover officer in the 1970s. He admitted to a sexual relationship under his cover identity. He appeared as 'Brian' in the BBC documentary 'True Spies'. , HN341 HN341 HN341 was an SDS undercover officer who was deployed in the 1970s. They later returned as a manager to the SDS. They have been granted fully anonymity in both cover and real names, so the only evidence published relating to them is an anonymised summary of their evidence; alongside a heavily edited and censored hearing transcript. , HN355. HN355 HN355 was an SDS undercover officer who infiltrated Maoist groups in the late 1970s and early 1980s. No further information is available besides that given in a collective statement of SDS officers who gave evidence in closed hearings.
