Overview

True Spies is the three-part BBC documentary aired in 2002 that revealed the existence of secret undercover UK police body ‘The Hairies’, also known as the Special Demonstration Squad.

Journalist Peter Taylor interviewed former Special Branch officers, including some former SDS undercover officers. Although the Special Branch hierarchy consented to officers speaking on camera, some former SDS officers were appalled, feeling that their unit’s secrecy had been compromised.
