Overview

HN1668 Les Herbert Willingale joined the SDS in the managerial post of Detective Sergeant in April 1975, was promoted to Detective Inspector in February 1977 and left the unit in November 1977 to join C Squad. 

Later, as a Superintendent, he had oversight of the SDS from July 1989 to October 1990. He retired from the Metropolitan Police in 1991. 

Willingale is deceased, and did not provide a witness statement to the Undercover Policing Inquiry.
